Yes, it is completely safe during pregnancy.

For these scans:

  • 4 hours of fasting is required

  • And for a Whole Abdomen scan, a full bladder is also necessary

Whereas—

For a Pregnancy Ultrasound, you should come after having normal food and water.

For a Lower Abdomen ultrasound, you only need to come with a full bladder.

You can drink water before all types of ultrasounds.

The NT/NB scan is done between 11 weeks to 13 weeks 6 days of pregnancy.

The Level-2 ultrasound is done between 18 to 22 weeks of pregnancy.

A color Doppler ultrasound is done to check the blood flow to the baby inside the womb.
This scan helps to find out whether:

  • The baby is receiving enough oxygen and nutrition

  • The placenta is working properly

  • The baby’s growth rate is normal

  • The mother’s high blood pressure, diabetes, or other conditions are affecting the baby

  • There is any growth restriction (IUGR)
